That sounds great! I think with the current leadership structure, however, it would be very unorganized. Newbs would ask for a ride to the front, and then ask for a ride straight back, risking the dropship because they didn't know the map layout and enemy defenses. I think this would work great if we implimented an idea I had with the leadership structure (the post is called: [Suggestion] Leadership enhancement). It could be a squad leader communicating to their squad's dropship, or the squad leader communicating to something I like to call the Regiment leader, asking for a dropship, pperhaps even from a different squad. Either way, all the squad leader would have to do is go to his leadership ability menu, and select "dropship request". Obviously, if the squad was making a flanking assault on an AV installation, and they were discovered and under heavy fire, he won't be able to sit there and think about where he wants to be dropped off. He has to think about where he needs to find cover, where he wants all of his squad members positioned, etc. He could select a destination once he is in the dropship, or the Regiment Leader could set an objetive for dropoff depending on where he wants the squad. Check out that leadership enhancement post! This post will make more sense if you read it. |

Cobra of Chulak wrote:Really, I don't know how much worry you'd need to have with the dropship being summoned to the front lines if the pickup calls were optional. The pilot would just see the call, see the area and think, "I can't stop there... that's bat country!!"
As long as it's optional, it's no different than the bleedout icon. Just a different way of acquiring the bonus.
This makes perfect sense! I do think, though, that if newbs were able to call for them individually, the call list would skyrocket for the dropship, and it would become difficult for him to make the tactically correct choice. There could be a newb camped on a building, and a Squad under fire from a tank at long range. As far as the dropship can tell, they both are on the same proiority level. I think Squad leaders should be the only ones who can call for a dropship. It helps the dropship pilot make more strategically advatageous decisions and it makes Squads want to stick together as opposed to having a team full of lone wolves (which always lose) |

Ooo... I didn't think of that. I think all ground leadership units (thats thhe Squad leader an the theoretical Regiment leader) should have some form of mobile command device. Its pretty much a minimap that they can use as an objective/ability map. The Squad leader could use it to command squads whhen he is seperated from his squad. That way there is still a direction for the squad to follow without the leader being present. Obviously without the leader's presence, the quality of leadership goes down, but it can help keep the squad in order while the leader tries to get back to his squad. Another useful thing that this mobile command device could be used for is to place squad abilities in the correct position, so you don't have to try and scope where you want that ability to occur. For example, lets say your squad is advancing in a dried ravine floor. Above you is a bridge where an enemy squad has taken defensive positions and has your squad pinned down 100 meters or so from the bridge. The logical thing for the Squad leader to do is call in a mortor strike, but if he tries to scope the position and call it in, he could miss the bridge entirely, whereas if he were to use a command device, he could pinpoint the exact location that he wants the mortor strike to occur on the map. Also, the Squad leader would be able to view MCD after death, before he respawns. So of a sniper has a Squad pinned down and the first person he took out was the Squad leader, the leader can still call a dropship for the rest of his squad. Obviously he shouldn't be able to do everything he is capable of while he is respawning, otherwise Squad leaders wouldn't respawn. They would just call in airstrikes and mortor strikes from the safety of respawn all day long. Some restriction is necessary, but overall he still has the power to command his squad, and help them with evac. Sorry, this is getting off topic, but it is still relevant I think. Someone should make a topic for Mobile Command Devices though! |
